Beltone Promise™ hearing instruments deliver sound as you remember hearing it—clear and easy to understand. As you move through the day and encounter different “sound surroundings”, your Promise hearing aids communicate with each other to intelligently – and automatically – self-adjust. As you change locations, transitions feel smooth and natural, and the sound is just right.

Ear-to-Ear Synchronization – Beltone Promise hearing aids automatically self-adjust according to where you are – in a quiet room, outside, or in a noisy restaurant, for example. And, if you choose to manually adjust one hearing aid, the change is instantly transferred to the other hearing aid, hands-free.

Beltone Wireless Network

Personal Wireless Network™ – Beltone is the first hearing aid company to offer many wireless hearing aid accessories that all work without cords or neck-loops. Our unmatched 2.4 GHz technology sends clear sound from your TV, stereo, PC, phone, iPod® and more, directly into your hearing aids.

What does this mean for you? If you're watching TV with a group of people, sound is streamed straight into your hearing aids. Adjust the volume without affecting what others hear. Freely move about the room. And, converse with others, while still hearing the television. Ask about Direct TV Link!

Another wireless accessory, the Beltone myPAL, is a small, portable mini-microphone with multiple uses. It can be placed in front of–or clipped onto–a sound source (such as your spouse) you want to hear…even from a distance. It’s easy to hear a lecture from the back of the lecture hall, or hear someone sitting at the opposite end of a table-for-10, at a noisy restaurant.

Each of our wireless accessories does something different for our patients. Be sure to ask for a demonstration when you come in!

Technology meets reliability – HPF80 NanoBlock™ protection is a coating that's applied to every hearing aid component, inside and out. NanoBlock™ protects circuitry from substances that can cause damage, such as moisture, dirt and ear wax. You avoid repairs, and spend more time loving what you hear.

Experience the Ultimate in Personalized Sound

Focus on sound like never before. Direct Line accessories let you wirelessly stream sound from a TV, cell phone, PC – even a person – into your hearing aids. This direct connectivity makes it easy to hear what you want to hear, and tune out what you don't.

Beltone Direct Remote Control

Direct Remote Control 2

Remote Control 2 is a handheld device that lets you effortlessly and discreetly monitor and change environmental programs, and adjust the volume of sound you hear coming from the environment, or streaming to your hearing aids from a TV, PC, phone and more.

TV Link 2 is the first direct-to-ear way to watch TV. It wirelessly streams high-quality stereo sound from your television to your hearing aids–using 2.4 GHz technology. TV Link 2 streams sound from other audio sources as well, including home stereos and PCs.

Direct Phone Link 2

Beltone Direct Phone Link

Direct Phone Link 2

Small and lightweight, Phone Link 2 uses 2.4 GHz technology for a secure connection between your Bluetooth® phone and your hearing instruments. Hear the phone ring in your hearing aids, even when the phone is put away in a pocket or handbag. Speak hands-free, and enjoy crisp, clear conversation in both ears. Use the mute button to eliminate background noise when you're conversing in loud surroundings.

Beltone Direct Audio Link

Direct Personal Audio Link (myPAL)

Beltone myPAL helps you hear exactly want you want to hear in noisy or crowded environments, such as restaurants, lectures, meetings, airports and family events. A small, portable microphone, myPAL can be worn by, or placed near, a person you want to hear clearly – even from a distance. Your myPAL captures their voice and streams it directly into your hearing aids.

Styles of Hearing Aids

The “shell” or “case” is the outer covering of a hearing aid, and determines its style. The choice of hearing aid style is a personal one, and depends on many factors, such as lifestyle, desired aesthetic appeal, and degree of hearing loss. The hearing technology that’s right for you will be offered in a number of different styles. Choosing the right one can make a big difference in your overall satisfaction.

Explore the many styles we offer. And, rest assured – at Beltone, you can try lots of styles, right here in the office.

Invisible-in-the-Canal (IIC) Style
Instrument smallEar small

Tiny is the new small! About the size of a raspberry, Beltone Invisible-in-the-Canal (IIC) hearing aids are the instruments of choice for those who desire hearing help that can't be seen.

A Invisible-in-the-Canal (IIC) starts its life as an ear-impression of your ear canal. The impression is turned into a 3-D computerized rendering. From there, each hearing aid component is “virtually” positioned, in order to create the tiniest finished product possible. Then, your hearing aid is built, and delicately sculpted until it matches the contours of your ear canal.

This hand-tailoring ensures a “made-for-you” shape, and a superior fit. It also permits the hearing aid to sit more deeply within your ear canal, hidden from view. And, patients enjoy the clear and natural listening experience IICs provide.

Receiver-in-Ear (RIE) Style
Instrument smallEar small

Receiver-in-Ear (RIE) hearing aids are the newest BTE style devices on the market, and, the most popular. An RIE hearing aid is comprised of a very small casing that sits behind the ear. The casing houses all of the electronic components of the hearing aid except for the receiver (also called the speaker). This allows the casing to be extremely tiny, so it's barely visible. A narrow transparent tube carries very thin wires from the casing to the receiver, which rests in your ear canal.

RIE hearing aids offer exceptionally natural sound quality, and can be used with custom-made or standard ear molds, depending on your individual amplification needs. Almost all types of hearing loss can be assisted with RIE style hearing aids.

Traditional Behind-the-Ear (BTE) Style
Instrument smallEar small

Easy-to-wear BTE devices are small, and feature a curved casing designed to nestle comfortably behind the ear. By matching flesh tone or hair color, they hide with ease. A transparent tube connects the device to a custom-created ear mold worn in your ear canal. Ear molds are lightweight and comfortable, making BTE hearing aids easy to wear all day.

BTE style hearing aids can be used by just about everyone. They assist the entire spectrum of hearing loss, from mild to severe. Additionally, they are budget friendly, and adapt to most lifestyles.

Mini Behind-the-Ear (Mini BTE) Style
Instrument smallEar small

The Mini BTE style hearing aid is a smaller version of the traditional BTE instrument. It features a nearly invisible tube connecting the casing to either a custom-made ear mold, or, an “open” ear dome. An open ear dome has small openings built into it and provides an “open fit.” The benefits of an open fit are more natural sound perception and extra airflow due to the apertures in the ear dome. Mini BTE hearing aids are great candidates for an open fit.

Because mini BTE hearing aids are so small, they provide enhanced aesthetics. You can choose from a variety of colors to match your hair color or skin tone.

Microphone-in-Concha (MIC) Style
Instrument smallEar small

Designed to “disappear” from view and provide extremely natural sound, the MIC style hearing aid represents the latest innovation in “custom” hearing aid technology. The main part of an MIC hearing aid hides in your ear canal. This piece is custom-manufactured based on an ear canal impression taken during your visit, so it's very comfortable. The hearing aid microphone is a separate component, and is worn within the concha, or curved groove, of your external ear—where it stays out of sight. A tiny transparent tube sends sound from the microphone in your concha to the component in your ear canal.

The ingenious construction of the MIC style hearing aid takes advantage of the ear's anatomy to provide near-to-natural sound quality, and outstanding appearance. By placing the microphone in the curved portion of your ear, it's protected from wind noise. This makes the MIC style perfect for active individuals who spend time outdoors.

Completely-in-Canal (CIC) Style
Instrument smallEar small

Another “tiny” offering, the CIC style hearing aid style is worn completely within the ear canal. Being a custom-crafted hearing aid, your Beltone Hearing Care Professional will take an ear canal impression to give your hearing aid a perfectly tailored fit. This ensures maximum comfort and sound quality.

CIC style hearing aids are most effective when treating mild-to-moderate hearing loss. Hearing aid wearers love them as they provide the benefit of improved hearing, with no one the wiser.

In-the-Canal (ITC) Style
Instrument smallEar small

ITC-style hearing aids are custom-made, based on an impression taken of your ear canal and the surrounding area. They are slightly larger than completely-in-canal (CIC) hearing aids, but still considered cosmetically appealing. All of the components in an ITC hearing aid are encased within a lightweight plastic shell. Their medium size makes them a great choice for push button controls. ITC hearing aids offer a secure fit, easy insertion and removal, and longer battery life. They work best for mild-to-moderate hearing loss.

Also popular is the Mini ITC style hearing aid. This option is less noticeable than the standard ITC hearing aid, but offers fewer easy-to-reach controls.

Full-Shell Style
Instrument smallEar small

Full-Shell style hearing devices partially-to-fully fill the outer ear. They are custom manufactured to fit securely, and be as aesthetically pleasing as possible. All components reside within a lightweight plastic shell which is simple to insert and remove. Their bigger size accommodates a variety of feature options, including special controls that are easy to adjust.

Full-Shell style hearing aids use larger batteries which can power a bigger receiver. This makes them a superb choice for more serious hearing losses. Larger batteries also last longer, and are more “user-friendly” to handle.

Meet Our Staff

H. William Mattingly

Beltone Hearing Aid Center has been serving the Tristate hearing impaired since May 15th of 1962. Mr. Mattingly has seen hearing aid technology evolve from simple amplifiers, the size of a pack of playing cards, to digital hearing aids smaller than the size of a dime that can "learn" the habits of it's wearer and are invisible to the naked eye. Mr. Mattingly is so passionate about the hearing aid business and cares deeply about each patient that comes through the door, he still remembers his first patient in 1962 and cherishes their joy of hearing the beautiful sounds of life that they had been missing until they purchased their hearing aids. Mr. Mattingly's love for the hearing aid industry has been passed to his daughter and current owner, Marsha Mattingly who began learning the business in 1977.

Marsha Mattingly

President and Hearing Care Specialist

Marsha Mattingly has been servicing the hearing impaired since 1977. She began her career as a Hearing Care Practitioner, became a Partner of Beltone Hearing Aid Center in 1987 and sole Owner in 2000. Helen Keller once noted that of all of her impairments, she was perhaps troubled most by her lack of speech and hearing. She elaborated, that while blindness separated her from things, her lack of speech and hearing separated her from people-the human connection of communication. The National Institute on Deafness & Other Communication Disorders reports an estimated 28 million Americans have a hearing loss that can be treated; yet fewer than 7,000,000 use a hearing aid. Miss Mattingly has dedicated her life to changing these statistics. From the sweet lullaby of a songbird, to the whispered “I love you”. It is Miss Mattingly’s passion to help those with a hearing loss hear the way they should. With genuine sincerity Miss Mattingly says, “One simple test can change your life."

Frequently Asked Questions

Check out these questions and answers. If you don't see your question here, feel free to contact us. We'll be happy to answer it!

How do I know if I need hearing aids?
Only a comprehensive hearing screening performed by a licensed hearing care professional, audiologist, or medical doctor can tell you if you need hearing aids. Often, people think they need hearing aids, but they really don't. Come in and see where you stand.

How much do hearing aids cost?
A set of hearing aids can range from a few hundred dollars to a few thousand dollars, depending on your individual hearing loss, the style you choose for your lifestyle, and many other factors. There's no way to predict or guess without seeing you for a hearing evaluation—and that's absolutely free! And remember, if hearing loss is due to a condition such as excess earwax, hearing aids are not even needed.

Will I be able to hear in noisy places?
Beltone hearing aids simulate natural hearing. They communicate with each other to automatically adjust when you're in noisy surroundings. Speech is prioritized, and background noise is de-emphasized, or blocked completely. The result? Easy listening in loud places.

Why it's important to know if you have hearing loss

  1. Neglecting, denying or ignoring hearing loss can hasten its progression. Conversely, treating hearing loss can dramatically slow its progression, and help you preserve good hearing for life.

  2. A major study* recently found that untreated hearing loss can increase the risk of developing Alzheimer's disease and dementia, by depriving the brain of needed stimulation. Those with mild hearing impairment were nearly twice as likely as those with normal hearing to develop dementia. The risk increased three-fold for those with moderate hearing loss, and five–fold for severe impairment. The good news - hearing aids keep the brain active and may lower the risk.

  3. Good hearing keeps you aware of your surroundings. Hearing sirens in traffic, your name called, or even something as simple as the oven timer helps you stay safe and maintain your independence.

  4. Hearing loss has been shown to triple the chance of falls, especially among older adults.

  5. Good hearing wards off feelings of depression, isolation, loneliness and frustration. Life is more enjoyable.

  6. Understanding others and actively participating in the conversation keeps you connected to friends and loved ones, and boosts self–esteem.

  7. More than 200 medications, including common antibiotics and aspirin, can cause hearing problems. Ask your doctor about the hearing–related side effects of any pharmaceuticals you are taking. And, before starting treatment, get a baseline record of your hearing to keep track of changes over time.

  8. Those who correct hearing loss with hearing aids are more likely to be employed, stay employed and earn a higher income, compared to those with untreated hearing loss.

  9. Infectious diseases such as meningitis, measles, mumps and chronic ear infections make people more prone to hearing impairment. Other common causes include exposure to excessive noise, head and ear injury, and aging.

  10. Half of all cases of deafness and hearing impairment are avoidable through primary prevention. So, click here to schedule a Beltone hearing screening!
